Immolith: Hymns to the Countess ep (2009)

–IMMOLITH: Hymns to the Countess ep (2009)

My email friend Greg Byrne, aka Isiamon, sent me this four-track CD of his black metal band Immolith. While I’m no expert of this style of extreme metal, it seems that this New Jersey-based band would appeal to fans of bands like Venom, Hellhammer and Mayhem. This is not much like the more polished and symphonic black metal of Dimmu Borgir or late-period Emperor. Rather, Immolith is much more raw and brutal in the riff department and production. The vocals of drummer/singer Warhead are indecipherable, gravelly and typical of this style of metal. Still, there is an unmistakable catchy factor in the Isiamon’s guitar riffs on all four tracks on this ep, and the songwriting is tight and memorable amid the blistering speed and blast beats. The band produced only 100 copies of this ep initially, but Byrne said the band will press another run of 100 with an improved mix.

–Tracklisting: 1.) The Ghost Tower of Inverness 2.) Slaughter the Legions 3.) Hymns to the Countess 4.) Countess Bathory (Venom Cover)
